How to Pack Shoes for a Move

ShoesIf your shoes have survived pre-move planning without being routed to a giveaway or garage sale pile, chances are you plan on wearing them again someday. Take the time to pack them correctly so that they still look wearable when you reach your destination.

Here are our tips for how to pack shoes:

  • Don’t simply toss all of your shoes into the bottom of a box. That will destroy their shape and finish.
  • Be aware that your shoes may contain moisture, making them susceptible to mold over the course of moving and storage. You can avoid this by airing out your shoes prior to packing. Consider powdering the insides of your shoes to draw out moisture.
  • Wrap your shoes in news wrap, tissue paper or paper towels and return them to their original shoeboxes for the move. This will protect them from damage. Alternatively, you can place shoes in a closet shoe hanger. This solution can also keep shoes relatively protected during a move (it works better to protect finish than shape).

Our recent move from the Twin Cities to Michigan was handled beautifully from start to finish, from the efficient and friendly service by Ron to the exceptional packing, loading and unloading by the on site crew. Special thanks to Jerry, our driver, and his side-kick Tim, who were truly angels in disguise during such an important time in our lives. I hope we don’t move again, but I’m sure that if we do we couldn’t find a company that would do a better job! Thank you – we are very, very grateful
