5 Tried And True Things to Know About Moving

While moving is a huge change, it’s also an exciting time. If you’re about to embark on this significant change, there are some things to keep in mind that will help this process go much smoother.

Let’s look into some things to know about moving that will help ease some of the stress and maybe even make it enjoyable.

1. Create a Moving Checklist — And Stick to It

Before you start to pack up all of your belongings, you should have a plan to help guide you through the process. There’s a lot of work that goes into moving before you even begin packing.

By creating a checklist and moving through all of these tasks, you’ll have a better idea of where you are in the process and how soon you’ll be able to complete everything.

A checklist will help you feel more in control of the process and help prevent stress when it comes time to pack.

2. Declutter First to Save Time and Money

One of the tasks on your checklist might be to minimize your belongings by decluttering anything you don’t need. Otherwise, you’ll end up packing items that will remain unused in your new place, and simply take up space.

Decluttering will save you work in the long run by ensuring you don’t pack unnecessary items. It will also save you money. The fewer items you pack, the fewer boxes you’ll need.

Donate items to a charity or hold a yard sale to get rid of items you don’t need quickly. Online stores like letgo can also help you sell things fast.

3. Organization is Key

Once you’ve purged your home of your unused belongings, it’s time to start packing. However, before you begin putting items in boxes, keep in mind that the more organized you are at this stage, the better.

Go room by room, and label your boxes, so you know exactly where everything is. Pack all of your essential items separately, so they’re easy to access (like toiletries, cooking supplies, cleaning items, etc.).

4. Ask for Help with the Moving Process

Typically, it’s once you start packing that the process becomes overwhelming. After all, most of us accumulate more than we realize. It becomes clear once you start packing your life into boxes.

Remember that you don’t have to go through the process alone. Enlist the help of family and friends to assist.

Or, if you would rather have more help with planning and moving, call a pro. Full-service professional movers can help alleviate the stress by packing, moving, and unpacking your belongings.

5. Take Time to Settle In

Once you get to your new place, take time to get acclimated to your new surroundings. Trying to unpack your belongings immediately will only add to your stress.

Get to know your new neighbors, your neighborhood, and get a feel for how you want to set up your new place. Unpack one room at a time, and before you know it, you’ll have made yourself at home.
